[Jolly Sports News] According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the 76ers have signed veteran wing Lonnie Walker IV to a two-year, $3 million deal. Walker, a former first-round pick by the San Antonio Spurs in 2018 (No. 18 overall), had been playing for Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania’s EuroLeague.
However, with his NBA buyout clause set to expire on Tuesday, Philadelphia swooped in at the last minute to bring him back stateside.
The move comes as the Sixers deal with the absence of Eric Gordon, who is sidelined with a wrist injury. Walker, a 6-foot-5 scorer and defender, will provide much-needed depth on the wing.
Walker has already spent time in the NBA with the Spurs, Lakers, and Nets. He notably became a playoff hero for the Lakers during their 2023 Western Conference Finals run, delivering a clutch performance to win a postseason game.
In his most recent NBA stint with the Nets in 2023-24, he averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 17.4 minutes per game off the bench. Over his six-year NBA career, his numbers remain consistent at 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 20.3 minutes per game.
Despite a disappointing 20-34 record, the Sixers remain just 1.5 games out of a play-in spot in the Eastern Conference. Walker’s addition could provide a spark as they push for postseason contention.
