Jokić and Wembanyama—who, let’s be honest, sound like the perfect duo for a buddy cop movie—were chatting in the locker room before Sunday’s All-Star Game at Chase Center in San Francisco.
Both had been selected for Charles Barkley’s “Global Stars” squad in the newly revamped format. That’s when something in Wembanyama’s locker caught Jokić’s attention.
Jokić: “You really brought a book?”
Wemby: “Yeah! I read before every game.”
Jokić’s reaction? A dramatic facepalm, as if he had just witnessed a crime against pregame traditions.
Clearly, curling up with a good book isn’t Jokić’s idea of preparation—he’d much rather watch majestic racehorses than read about mythical creatures. Wembanyama, on the other hand, has lost count of how many books he’s read over his 21 years.
Given his otherworldly presence on the court, it’s only fitting that his favorite genre is fantasy.
