[Jolly Sports News] The Philadelphia 76ers took on the Milwaukee Bucks in a nationally televised game Sunday, but the bigger story was a troubling update on Joel Embiid’s health.

During ESPN’s broadcast, sideline reporter Lisa Salters shared that she recently spoke with Embiid, who admitted he believes “it will likely take another surgery and a long recovery period” to fully fix his troublesome left knee.

Embiid first injured the knee nearly a year ago when Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors fell into him, causing a torn lateral meniscus. The former MVP underwent surgery but returned in time for the playoffs and even played for Team USA at the Paris Olympics.

However, the knee has continued to be a major issue, forcing him to miss extended time this season under what the 76ers have labeled “left knee injury management.”

On top of that, foot and facial injuries have added to his absences, bringing his total missed games this season to 36. Reports have already surfaced about the Sixers’ growing frustration with his availability, and with the team struggling at 20-31, a conversation about shutting Embiid down for the season may soon be necessary.

With Embiid under contract for three more guaranteed years—and a player option for a fourth—Philadelphia may also need to start thinking about his long-term future with the franchise.
