[Jolly Sports News] Kendrick Perkins was one of the few who initially defended the Luka Doncic trade—but he’s since had a change of heart.
Doncic was shockingly dealt from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night, a move so unexpected that many questioned if the report was even real. While most saw the trade as overwhelmingly in the Lakers’ favor, a handful of analysts, including Perkins, believed Dallas made out just fine.
The former NBA player and current ESPN analyst initially praised the move, posting on X, “Dallas won this trade. AD and Kyrie are going to be Special!!!! Plus they didn’t have to give up Lively, Gafford, or PJ Washington. God Bless America.”
Charles Barkley echoed similar sentiments.
However, by Thursday, Perkins had completely reversed course. Speaking on ESPN’s NBA trade deadline show, he admitted he had re-evaluated his stance.
“Now that I’ve had a moment to let this whole trade digest, this might be one of the dumbest trades in NBA history if you look down the line … trading Luka Doncic,” Perkins said.
Barkley suggested the Mavericks must know something the rest of the world doesn’t.
