[Jolly Sports News] The San Antonio Spurs are officially moving on from the last trace of the Kawhi Leonard era.

As part of their blockbuster trade for Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox, the Spurs have assigned him the No. 2 jersey—last worn by Leonard in 2018. Don Harris of *WOAI-TV* reports that Fox will don the number despite its connection to one of the franchise’s most accomplished players.

The decision has sparked debate among fans. Leonard played a pivotal role in the Spurs’ 2014 championship run, earning Finals MVP honors and multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards during his tenure from 2011-18.

However, his messy departure—stemming from a feud over the handling of his quad injury—left a sour taste in San Antonio. The rift ultimately led to Leonard’s trade to the Toronto Raptors, and he remains a polarizing figure, regularly booed when he returns to the city.

While some believe the Spurs should have kept Leonard’s No. 2 unofficially retired, the team appears ready to move forward.

With Fox’s preferred No. 5 already taken by rookie Stephon Castle, the Spurs have no hesitation in giving their new star Leonard’s old number—a clear sign that the organization has fully turned the page.
