[Jolly Sports News] Dwyane Wade is shedding light on a personal health battle he recently faced.
On the latest episode of his podcast, The Why with Dwyane Wade, the Miami Heat legend revealed that he had 40% of his right kidney removed after doctors discovered a cancerous tumor.
Wade initially sought medical attention for stomach and urinary issues, leading to a full-body scan that detected the tumor. In December 2023, he underwent kidney surgery to remove it successfully.
Fortunately, Wade’s cancer was caught at stage 1 and had not spread beyond his kidney. However, he described his recovery as “the weakest point I’ve ever felt in my life.”
Despite the physical toll, he credited his family and friends for helping him through the process and has since fully recovered. Wade also emphasized the importance of prioritizing health and regular medical checkups.
A 13-time NBA All-Star, Wade retired in 2019 at age 37 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.
Now 43, he has remained active in the basketball world, even calling games for NBC during the Paris Olympics last summer. With his health back on track, Wade could soon take on another high-profile TV role.
