[Jolly Sports News] A former NBA champion’s stint with his new team isn’t going as planned.

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Monday that guard Donte DiVincenzo has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 sprain of his left big toe, suffered during last Wednesday’s loss to the Golden State Warriors. The 27-year-old will now be sidelined indefinitely.

DiVincenzo, a 2021 NBA champion with the Milwaukee Bucks, joined the Timberwolves last summer as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns trade after playing with the Warriors and Knicks. Known for his three-point shooting (career 37.5%) and high-energy play, DiVincenzo was averaging 11.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists this season.

The 22-21 Timberwolves, already dealing with inconsistent guard play and other setbacks, will now have to find alternatives—potentially giving rookie Rob Dillingham a bigger role in the rotation.
