[Jolly Sports News] Jayson Tatum didn’t hold back this week in responding to surprising criticism from former Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings.

Jennings made waves with his recent comments about the Boston Celtics star during an appearance on Gilbert Arenas’ show, Gil’s Arena.

Jennings called Tatum “the softest Boston Celtics superstar ever,” criticizing his game and questioning why Tatum “let” teammate Jaylen Brown win the Finals MVP award last season.

Tatum fired back on Instagram on Wednesday, posting highlights from Boston’s recent win over the Denver Nuggets (their fourth victory in five games).

The post’s caption mocked Jennings with the phrase, “SoFtesT SuPeRstar in CeLtiC HiStoRy,” written in alternating upper- and lower-case letters, mimicking the “Mocking SpongeBob” meme.

Despite being a five-time All-Star and leading the Celtics to a championship last season, Tatum still faces detractors. Whether it’s due to his polarizing on-court demeanor or moments of alleged unoriginality, criticism follows him.

Jennings, who played in the NBA from 2009 to 2017 and is now 35, has added his voice to that chorus.

Tatum, however, isn’t one to shy away from defending himself, proving he’s ready to respond to critics—even former NBA players.
