[Jolly Sports News] The Philadelphia 76ers announced Thursday that rookie guard Jared McCain will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 NBA season, marking a significant setback for the team. The 20-year-old McCain, selected 16th overall in the 2024 draft, is recovering from surgery to address a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee.
McCain’s injury was first disclosed last month, with the team initially labeling his status as “indefinite.”
However, the 76ers have now confirmed that McCain will be sidelined until the 2025-26 season, though they noted he is “progressing well” and promised further updates as appropriate.
Before his injury, McCain was thriving and had emerged as a strong Rookie of the Year candidate. Averaging 15.3 points per game on impressive 48/38/88 shooting splits, he provided a reliable scoring option for the 15-20 76ers with his polished offensive game.
McCain’s absence is a blow to a team striving to climb back into contention. While the rookie guard is also widely recognized for his TikTok presence, his on-court performance had begun to overshadow his social media fame.
Now, McCain will shift his focus to recovery and preparing for a strong return in the 2025-26 season.
