[Jolly Sports News] Sunday’s matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the San Antonio Spurs faced a one-hour delay due to an unexpected issue with the playing court.

The Timberwolves announced the delay, moving the tip-off from 7:10 PM CST to 8:10 PM CST, citing “an issue with the game court.”

While details were initially sparse, Chris Hine of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that the Spurs identified the problem during their morning shootaround, prompting the Timberwolves to replace the court entirely.

Originally set to be played on Minnesota’s “City Edition” court, the game was shifted to the team’s standard court. The unique “City Edition” design, which was intended to debut during this matchup, had to be swapped out last minute.

This marks the first time such an issue has arisen at Target Center, the Timberwolves’ home arena since its opening in 1990.

However, similar mishaps have occurred in the NBA, including incidents last season involving special courts designed for the In-Season Tournament, now known as the NBA Cup.
