[Jolly Sports News] The NBA acknowledged that a technical foul called during Saturday’s NBA Cup game was unwarranted.
On Monday, the league announced it had rescinded a technical foul assessed to Oklahoma City Thunder swingman Luguentz Dort during the NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Houston Rockets. Following a review, the league determined Dort’s actions did not meet the criteria for a technical foul.
The incident occurred in the closing seconds of OKC’s 111-96 win, when Dort celebrated a three-pointer by holding up three fingers.
The referees appeared to misinterpret the gesture as a taunt and promptly called a technical foul. However, the league later clarified that Dort was simply signifying a three-point shot.
Dort played a key role in the victory, scoring 19 points and sinking five three-pointers to help the Thunder advance to the NBA Cup final against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday in Las Vegas.
While officiating consistency has been a topic of concern this season, the NBA has shown a willingness to rectify questionable calls through retroactive reviews.
Just weeks ago, the league similarly rescinded a technical foul called on Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook after determining it was made in error.
