[Jolly Sports News] JJ Redick’s old teammate might be on the Los Angeles Lakers’ radar for a roster boost.

Lakers writer Anthony Irwin recently reported during an X broadcast that the team has shown interest in Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith.

“I know the Lakers checked in on Dorian Finney-Smith last year and have remained in constant contact with Brooklyn about him,” said Irwin.

Finney-Smith, 31, is a defensive specialist at 6-foot-7 and is averaging 10.8 points per game this season while shooting a career-best 41.0% from three.

He also has a connection with Lakers head coach JJ Redick, as the two were teammates on the Dallas Mavericks during the 2020-21 season, Redick’s final year in the league.

The Lakers, sitting at 10-6 and fourth in the West, have struggled defensively, ranking in the bottom five in defensive rating. Outside of Anthony Davis and Cam Reddish, they lack consistent defensive contributors, making Finney-Smith an appealing target.

He could be one of several players the Nets consider moving ahead of the trade deadline.
