[Jolly Sports News] The Atlanta Hawks have been fined $100,000 for violating the NBA’s player participation policy regarding Trae Young.

Young sat out the Hawks’ NBA Cup game against the Boston Celtics on Nov. 12, a 117-116 win for Atlanta. The team listed Achilles tendonitis as the reason for his absence, but a league investigation determined the injury was not the cause. Young was one of six Hawks players who missed Atlanta’s first NBA Cup game.

This was the only game Young has missed this season. Through 17 games, he’s averaging an impressive double-double with 21.9 points and 11.9 assists per game.

The NBA has been cracking down on the issue of star players sitting out regular-season games without valid reasons. Another team faced a hefty fine earlier this year for a similar violation.
