[Jolly Sports News] According to The Athletic, Williamson has parted ways with his longtime agency, CAA. He had been with the agency since he was 19 years old and is currently in the second year of a five-year, $197 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.
However, the deal includes significant contingencies tied to Williamson’s health and availability.
The final three years of Williamson’s contract are not fully guaranteed due to missed benchmarks related to games played.
Additionally, the contract reportedly includes clauses addressing his weight and physical condition, further emphasizing the importance of his fitness and durability.
Williamson has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since Nov. 6, with reports suggesting he may not return until after mid-December.
This season, he has appeared in just six games. While he played a career-high 70 regular-season games last year, Williamson has struggled with injuries throughout his career, including missing an entire season due to a foot injury.
Despite his health challenges, Williamson has shown flashes of dominance when available, averaging 24.6 points per game over his career.
The Pelicans’ 49-33 record last season offered a glimpse of their potential when Williamson is on the court, but his availability remains a key concern for the team’s future.
