[Jolly Sports News] LeBron James’ decision to step away from social media quickly turned into a comedic opportunity for the New York Mets.

On Wednesday, James announced his temporary social media hiatus, sharing a post about negativity in sports media and writing, “And with that said I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care.”

The Mets didn’t miss a beat. After news broke Thursday that their star shortstop Francisco Lindor finished as runner-up to Shohei Ohtani for the NL MVP award, the Mets’ official X account hilariously copied James’ post word-for-word, emojis included.

The jab had layers: not only does James play in the same city as the Dodgers—who eliminated the Mets from the playoffs and claimed the NL MVP—but James was also once a vocal fan of a Mets rival. The Mets’ trolling was the perfect mix of timing and context, making James’ social media farewell an easy target.
