[Jolly Sports News] The Oklahoma City Thunder received major news on Chet Holmgren, who has been diagnosed with a right iliac wing fracture.

While the team expects Holmgren to return this season, his return-to-play timeline won’t be reviewed for another 8-10 weeks.

Holmgren, 22, was injured during the first quarter of Sunday’s 127-116 loss to the Warriors while contesting a drive by Andrew Wiggins. He landed hard on his right hip and was unable to put weight on his leg as he was helped off the floor.

With an update expected in January, Holmgren’s full return may take much longer as he goes through rehab and conditioning. This setback derails Holmgren’s promising season, where he was averaging 18.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks on 52/40/78 shooting splits. It’s another blow for Holmgren, who missed his entire rookie season with a right foot injury.

The Thunder, off to a strong 8-2 start, now face a major challenge at the center position. With Isaiah Hartenstein sidelined by a hand injury and Jaylin Williams out with a hamstring issue, OKC may need to rely on 6-foot-9 Ousmane Dieng at center or seek outside reinforcements.
