[Jolly Sports News] San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich held nothing back in a recent post-game press conference, delivering a pointed critique of former President Donald Trump.

Known for his political outspokenness, Popovich depicted Trump as “pathetic,” “small,” and “a whiner,” and questioned his fitness for any leadership role. “He’s pathetic, he’s small, he’s a whiner, we all know that,” Popovich began.

“But you wouldn’t have him babysit your kids. You wouldn’t hire him if you had a small business. You want that man in your business? There’s no way. But we’re going to vote for him for president?”

Expanding his criticism, Popovich argued Trump “gives the finger to the world,” attributing it to a “small” character focused on revenge. “He’s getting back at everybody,” Popovich said, “just like we all love the generals and Mike Pence and all that.”

Turning to Trump’s supporters, Popovich didn’t mince words about GOP leaders who, in his view, enable Trump’s behavior. “Those people around him, you know, the Grahams, the Cruzes, the Hollies, the Meadows, McCarthy, McConnell…they know he’s an ass. They said it. I’m not saying that I think they think that.” He reminded listeners that these same leaders had previously criticized Trump harshly, calling him “xenophobic,” “a racist,” and “unfit for office,” before ultimately standing by him when it suited their interests.

Popovich also questioned whether these leaders consider the impact of Trump’s leadership on future generations. “Do they not know they have children and grandchildren who are going to lose freedom if this guy is elected? I’m not talking about a policy—I’m talking about the idea of our country.”

In his closing remarks, Popovich portrayed Trump’s quest for power as a personal vendetta, fueled by a lifetime of rejection. In his view, Trump’s influence could have a profound impact on America’s future, undermining the country’s values in ways that may only become clear once it’s too late.
