[Jolly Sports News] The Golden State Warriors and 2021 first-round pick Moses Moody have agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract extension ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season, as first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Moody, 22, has become a key part of the Warriors’ bench and is expected to take on a bigger role following Klay Thompson’s offseason departure. The Warriors view Moody as a long-term piece of their future, prompting the deal before the Oct. 21 extension deadline.

In the 2023-24 season, Moody averaged 8.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, shooting 46.2% from the field and 36.0% from three-point range.

His contract, with an annual average value of about $13 million, aligns with the league’s mid-level exception. Despite rumors of holding out and seeking a four-year deal, the two sides finalized the three-year extension.

Moody’s minutes fluctuated last season, starting in nine of 66 games, but he is expected to have a more consistent role in 2024-25, especially after a strong preseason performance.

With Moody’s future secured, attention now turns to teammate Jonathan Kuminga, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal without an extension in place.

After missing the playoffs last season, Moody will look to help Stephen Curry and the Warriors compete for another championship.
