Chris Newsome contributed 18 points in the opener, while outside recruits Allen Durham and David Kennedy each added 17. Durham also finished with 11 rebounds for a double-double. The Meralco Electric Light team arrived in Japan on Monday night to prepare for the big game.
“It’s going to be tough,” Newsome said of the game, “but I’m glad we’ve matched the number of wins we had in the league last year.” Meralco finished 1-5 in the regional league last season.
