[Jolly Sports News] An NBA executive is making a major career shift.
Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reported that Sachin Gupta, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ executive vice president of basketball operations, is leaving the team for a prominent role with English soccer club Chelsea F.C.
Gupta, 42, known for creating ESPN’s “Trade Machine,” has nearly 20 years of NBA front office experience with teams like the Rockets, 76ers, Pistons, and Timberwolves. He became interim GM in Minnesota in 2021 after Gersson Rosas was fired and stayed on after Tim Connelly was hired in 2022.
Chelsea, one of Europe’s biggest soccer clubs, plays in the Premier League and has strong American ties through co-owner Todd Boehly.
