The PBA added the four-point line in the new season, creating a new chapter in global professional basketball

(JollySports) The Philippine Professional Basketball League (PBA) will introduce a major change for the new season – the four-point line will be added to the regular game, becoming the first professional basketball league in the world to introduce the four-point line in official games. This innovation is designed to enhance the excitement of the game and retain the original three-point line.

The PBA, Asia’s first professional basketball league, is about to celebrate its 49th season. The PBA decided at its recent meeting to add a four-point line 8.23 meters from the rim to make the game more entertaining, and plans to implement the rule starting with the Governor’s Cup in August.

PBA President Ricky Vargas revealed that there will be several other rule changes in addition to the four-point line for the new season. Alfrancis Chua, the newly elected vice president of the PBA, said, “The four-point line was tried in the All-Star game. Introducing the four-point line into the routine will not only speed up the game, but also reduce the team’s zone defense and make the game more intense.”

As Jua said, in last season’s PBA All-Star Game, player Robert Bolick made a four-pointer and was fouled by an opponent, earning an extra free throw to complete a rare five-point play.
