[Jolly Sports News] Team USA Basketball faced an unexpected inconvenience while trying to celebrate their gold medal victory at the Paris Olympics.
During a panel at Fanatics Fest in New York, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards revealed that three of the team’s players—himself, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry—were drug-tested immediately after their win over France in the gold medal game.
“After the gold medal [game], I’m not gonna lie,” said Edwards, per Bleacher Report. “Me and [Durant] had a drug test. We couldn’t even really celebrate in the locker room because me, him, and Steph had to take a drug test or something.”
According to International Olympic Committee rules, athletes can be required to undergo drug testing at any time during the Olympic Games.
In the gold medal game, Edwards contributed eight points off the bench, while Durant, overcoming a calf injury, started for the first time in the tournament and scored 15 points. Curry, the leading scorer for Team USA with 24 points, was also tested after his standout performance, including a late-game takeover that secured the victory.
