[Jolly Sports News] Steve Kerr spoke to Tim Reynolds about Team USA’s narrow victory over South Sudan on Saturday. He admitted that the team’s lack of preparation was his responsibility, stating that he failed to get them ready for the game. Kerr also acknowledged that the team underestimated South Sudan’s capabilities, which was another oversight on his part.
“I did not do a great job preparing our team… We did not focus enough on what they’re capable of, and that’s on me.” Steve Kerr was clearly unhappy with Team USA’s struggle against South Sudan. Despite being a young nation, South Sudan put up a much tougher fight than expected against Team USA, the favorites to win the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
LeBron James had an outstanding performance, scoring 25 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and dishing out 7 assists, including the game-winning lay-up. However, the rest of the team showed a lack of focus and determination against the weaker South Sudan team.
After the game, LeBron expressed his preference for close wins over blowouts. While he may enjoy the thrill, many believe that Team USA’s performance against South Sudan raises concerns for their Olympic prospects.
Joel Embiid had previously expressed concerns about Team USA’s age and the increasing competitiveness of other countries. His comments might hold some truth as the world seems to be catching up to the USA’s basketball prowess.
