[Jolly Sports News] Chris Paul is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the Golden State Warriors waived him on Sunday. He has been quickly linked to the San Antonio Spurs, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein. The Spurs are eager to pair Paul with Victor Wembanyama to make significant progress in their rebuild. Stein also notes that there will be “no shortage” of suitors for Paul once he officially hits the open market, with another Western Conference team also previously linked to him.
The Warriors attempted to trade Paul but found no takers before the deadline to finalize his contract. It was clear they had no intention of keeping him, making it a matter of whether another team could work something out with him.
Last season, Paul primarily played off the bench for Golden State, averaging 9.2 points and 6.8 assists per game. He is presumably looking for a larger role on his next team.
